consideration both as regards salary and pension was

not based on the fact that I had been invalided from the Service, but was founded upon the causes of the breakdown of my health, viz:- Overpressure of work, an excessively long stay in the Tropics without a break, and the refusal to grant me leave of absence when the state of my health urgently required it.

On the 18th May, letter No. 17687, I was in- formed that a copy of my latter of the 12th May was sent to the Governor, and the only reply I have re- ceived with reference to the above letter was on the 4th June, No. 19744/1914, wherein I was informed that the Governor had reported that I had been awarded a pension at the rate of £200 a year.

I pointed out fully in my letter of the 18th June the exceptional services I had rendered, (see clause 5) and also the causes of my ill health.

I respectfully press the following claims:-

(a)

The payment of the arrears of my salary for

the months of March, April and May 1914.

(b)

The award of an adequate pension from the

30th May 1914, according to the true in-

tent and meaning of the pension rules,

being the difference between £200 now

awarded, and the sum of £550 and the due

payment of same hereafter.

According to the pension rules, the allowance

stated for materially impaired health
